The main commodity in the stone age was, as one might expect, stones. The same could be said for the Copper, Bronze, and Iron ages, respectively, with the definitive material of age being that which was most valued by the market during the time. Being that this is the Information Age, it is only logical to assume that information must be the most sought after and valuable commodity. We can see that this is true as the competition to produce, control, and distribute, and teach information is fierce.
Information means access to better deals, more efficient solutions, and in turn, more profit. This well known rule of our age has lead many to believe, rightfully so, that formal education is more crucial than ever. With this in mind, a myriad of universities, academies, and colleges have sprung up out of the blue, offering high level education to people from all over the world. Yet, even when the number of postsecondary institutions is huge, true quality in the educational sector remains the domain of only a select few.
The skill to combine custom made academic courses, addressing the particular needs of each student, with the most advanced teaching techniques, and do so by maintaining a coherent price in the cost of education, is a feat that only a few companies and institutions ever achieve.
Makini College, from Kenya, is one of this select group. This Nairobi based institution, which represents the tertiary education and training arm of Makini School, started its operations in 1997 at the Kaboke House, located on State House Avenue in Nairobi. The college began by running Marketing courses on a part-time basis with only five students.
Due to the exceptionally high demand for this course, the college expanded tremendously over the next two years, and obtained full registration by the Ministry of Higher Education Science & Technology of Kenya. From there, Makini College has only grow bigger and better.

Makini College has collected a number of awards and recognitions from all over the world, especially within the field of education, that testify to its quality and commitment to the future of Kenya.
In 2005, the college won 10 of the 15 highly coveted awards from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM-UK) examinations. As a result, the college introduced new programs that include an entire slate of business-related studies, with principal areas of study comprised of public relations, accounting, purchasing and supply, and information communications. This complete curriculum was later confirmed when, in 2011, Makini College was recognized as the Top CAM Qualification Accredited Study Centre. It was also awarded as the Top CIM Qualification Accredited Study Centre in Kenya—3 years in a row.
Based on the excellent performance achieved in the field of public relations, Makini College was accredited as the first ever study centre for public relations in Kenya and the entire East Africa region. The Public Relations Society of Kenya also endorsed Makini College as the leading accredited study centre in public relations.
For its remarkable dedication to providing quality learning and quality education in the complex and much needed field of marketing, for its capacity to provide tertiary learning solutions under the the most stringent standards and certifications, and for its unquestionable commitment to the core concepts inscribed in the world of Quality Culture, Makini College has been selected to receive the 2016 Business Initiative Directions International Quality Award, in recognition of its continuous pursuit of excellence.
